SEO Update: No Content is Bad

It’s obvious, but if you don’t update your blog often, no one will read it.

Looking at my Google Analytics data, it’s pretty obvious that when I write something, people get notified about it, and they come and read it. If you want to increase your readership, write more.

I’ve also discovered some more excellent things about WordPress, that you may notice have appeared on the blog.

First up, the excellent Sociable plugin. Adding this to your WordPress site gives you those funky little buttons beneath the posts that let people add them to other social networking sites like Digg, Slashdot, etc. I never realised just how many of the things there are, so happily, you don’t have to turn all of them on.

Secondly, I’ve added the Yet Another Related Posts Plugin plugin. This plugin uses a ranking algorithm to find some other content in the blog that is, in its opinion, related to the current post. This is a great idea, just like Amazon’s “people who bought x also bought y” feature. Weirdly, I once wrote something like this for library books when I was in primary school (in BASIC!), but that’s a story for another time. This feature is great for exposing your readers to older content, and stuff that they might not have stumbled across on their own.

Lastly, I’ve added a plugin that builds a search engine friendly sitemap.xml file, to help Google and other find and index older content that may not have loads of inbound links. Hopefully this will help people find out about eigenblog.

Now I just have to write stuff that you find interesting. Let me know how I’m doing in the comments!
