Day of the Sea Slugs

Plants that roam the earth and seek to annihilate the human race cannot be far away. This amazing article from New Scientist about solar-powered sea slugs that have stolen photosynthesis genes from algae is, quite simply, amazing.

Important questions must now be answered. Is this the evolutionary future for vegans? Or will the trees finally rise up from their freshly mulched rainforest homes and overthrow their plant-devouring nemeses? They laughed when I played Mozart to the kaffir lime. We’ll see who’s laughing when the slugs realise there are bigger plants on land than there are on the ocean floor.

I, for one, welcome our kleptoplastic, photosynthesising sea slug overlords.
