Wow. I’d heard about ‘Customer Service’ people trying to hold onto customers through all kinds of nefarious means, but for a graphic example of how not to treat your customers, check out this recording of an AOL customer service person giving one of their customers grief because they want to cancel their account. If someone in my company did this to a customer, I’d go hunting for who thought this was a good idea and ask them to explain why they should keep their job. The guy on the phone probably didn’t think this up all on their own; stuff like this is almost always the result of some manager not thinking an idea all the way through. The contempt it shows for their customers is just.. amazing.
Free clue: Fix your service, don’t harass your customers.
