After yesterday’s tirade about Plone, I bit the bullet and googled for how to create a custom skin in Plone. On the first page of results was a link to a helpful tutorial over at plone.org.Helpfully titled
Creating a Custom Skin, it provides a link to a Product that gives an example of a custom skin. Using the code from that, I was able to work out what Plone is doing when you install a new Plone Site and fold it into my own code.
So a quick five minute of googling would have saved me several hours of stuffing around. I might still have had to figure out some of the code myself, since I wouldn’t have had the same background at that point, but it would have been much faster.
The lesson to be learned here is that if it’s not immediately obvious, a quick google will save a lot of time and effort.
