Justin joins MVMUG Steering Committee

Last night I officially joined the Melbourne VMUG Steering Committee. I’d been helping out informally for a little while anyway, so now I just have one less excuse to not turn up to things. :)

While I don’t have any official responsibilities, I plan to help the committee with the mechanics of strategy and marketing stuff. It’s what I do as a day job, so it makes sense for me to use my skills and experience to help with the stuff I’m good at.

I’ll continue to produce the video coverage of meetings. We’re going to set up a Melbourne VMUG channel on YouTube rather than me posting them to my own eigenmagic channel. I have no idea if we can move the existing videos across without re-uploading them (and losing all the views statistics, etc.). I’ll look into maybe using Vimeo instead. If you have suggestions for what you’d prefer, let me know.

I’m also going to try to figure out an overall marketing and communications strategy for the group. It’s a bit piecemeal at the moment, and while we don’t want to get uber-serious about it all (VMUG is supposed to be fun!) there are some things we could be doing to improve the way we understand what members want VMUG to be, and how we deliver on that.

If you have any ideas about what you’d like to see from VMUG, do let us know. We’re here to make VMUG something you enjoy belonging to, and that you find valuable and worthwhile. If there’s something we’re not doing, let us know.
