The Work of Two Men

Whew. It’s been a long week so far. I’m covering for a colleague who’s away this week, on his honeymoon, the bastard. We’re both normally up to our elbows in alligators, but with only the one of me doing the work of two, it’s been a struggle. I’ve fallen behind in my own work, and I’ve managed to fall behind in his too. I don’t envy him the catching up that inevitably follows a week off. Even better, I leave for a week and a half off the following week, so I have to do some sort of handover as well. No doubt he’ll be feeling the same way I am after a few days of chaos.

Unfortunately it’s kept me away from doing other stuff I’d like to be doing, and some I won’t like but have to do. With the catchup I’ll be doing after that, and Christmas not long away, I’m just about at the point where I need a holiday from paying work to catch up on all the non-paying work.

Being a grownup sucks sometimes, but I suppose I could have icecream for dinner whenever I like.
